With Streetview*, photographer Bas Losekoot has made an intriguing and intimate portrait of the city.
He pictures us, city dwellers, as we move through space towards our next goal or destination. We seem to be immersed in thoughts. Seldom making connections with those who surround us. Moving like water, or a well-practiced choreography.
The pictures were taken in nine major metropolitan areas incl Seoul, Lagos, São Paulo, New York, London and Hong Kong. The photos were recently shown in an exhibition in the Dutch museum More and in Fotomuseum Vrijthof whilst igniting relevant conversations on big city life in several media. The UN estimates that by 2050 2/3 of the world's population will live in a city, making metropolis the habitat for most of us.
We call ourselves lucky that we'll have Bas Losekoot as our guest, sharing his pictures and observations with us. And we call upon city dwellers, art lovers, urban planners, sociologists and photographers to meet up and join us on what promises to be a stimulating evening.
