In the past few years, the United States has increased its use of sanctions and export controls with the objective to address a range of national security, technology, and human rights concerns related to China. In response, China has introduced counter sanctions measures, including an Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law which passed in June. These sanctions regimes and countermeasures increasingly place companies that are obliged to observe US sanctions in difficult positions where they must choose which sanctions regime to adhere to.

To help navigate these complex issues, please join us to hear from Nicholas Turner. Nick is a registered foreign lawyer (New York) at the Hong Kong office of Steptoe & Johnson, a DC-based law firm. He specializes in advising financial institutions and corporates on compliance with economic sanctions, including those administered by the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Nick is a co-chair of the Law Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.

The session will be moderated by Edgar Ultee. Edgar is Head of Compliance at Transamerica Life Bermuda and has extensive working experience in the fields of insurance and asset management. Edgar is a member of the Finance Committee at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.
