The DutchCham Tax Committee organises again a roundtable discussion.

Digital Services Taxes, are now not only popping up in various European countries, but also within the various regions of the Asia Pacific Region, such as in India, Indonesia, Japan and South Korea.

Meanwhile, the EU and the OECD are still seeking views from their member countries on the introduction of such tax, whereas the USA simply considers the tax as a trade barrier. Because of Covid-19, it has been argued that the EU / OECD should postpone the introduction of such tax.

Simultaneously, it can also be argued that the companies that would be subjected to those taxes are the ones that have seen their profits significantly increased as a result of Covid-19 and therefore should have a responsibility to put some of those profits back into the community.

Should governments rely on the introduction of other taxes, such as wealth taxes, inheritances taxes or simply import duties? Willem Jan Hoogland of HKWJ Tax Law & Partners Limited will introduce the topic, followed by an interactive discussion with the participants.
